Protecting our environment is something I am very passionate about. Below are just a few ways you can help our community stay green.
Conserve Paper
· Go paperless with online billing
· Buy recycled paper products
· Create scratch pads from used paper
· Reduce junk mail with “GreenDimes.com”
· Encourage your business to begin a paper recycle program
Eco Fact:
The amount of wood and paper we throw away each year is enough to heat 50 million homes for 20 years.
Conserve Plastic
· Get a reusable shopping bag
· Use durable coffee mugs instead of Styrofoam
· Use a reusable water bottle instead of buying bottled water
· Hold a water bottle drive
· Remember to remove caps from water bottles when recycling
Eco Fact:
A single polystyrene (Styrofoam) cup contains one billion molecules of chlorofluorocarbons or CFC’s (the chemicals that break down the ozone in the troposphere) – that’s 1,000,000,000,000,000,000!
Oil and Gas Conservation
· Bike it or hike it!
· Buy a “Smart Car” or hybrid
· Plan your trip, combine your chores
· Carpool, take a bus or train
· Check your tire pressure
· Replace out your air filter
· Keep your car tuned up
· Lighten the load. Every 250 lbs. takes up an extra mile per gallon
Eco Fact:
A single quart of motor oil, if disposed of improperly, can contaminate up to two million gallons of fresh water.
Electricity Conservation
· Turn off the lights
· Change out your light bulbs to compact florescent
· Shut the fridge door
· Use a power strip to turn off office equipment
· Buy energy efficient appliances
· Keep the A/C between 78-80 degrees
